This King is a fantastic all around bass for whatever playing you need. It has had one owner since it was purchased new in 1975. Since then, this Duo Gravis has accompanied big names such as Mel Torme, The Supremes, The Smothers Brothers, and James Brown. In addition to its commercial use, this horn has also been played in classical ensembles such as National Symphony Orchestra, The Bolshoi Opera, Marching Along With Frederic Fennell, Paul Lavalle’s Band of America, and The Arlington Symphony. But its history doesn't stop there. Its also been in jazz groups including Mike Crotty’s Sunday Morning Jazz Band which featured various guest jazz artists such as Phil Wilson, Pete Candoli, Mel Lewis, Louie Bellson, Tom Harrell, and Sonny Stitt.
This horn lives up to its reputation as a "bright" sound in big bands and show bands, and speaks with true clarity and presence. The sterling silver bell allows it to project rich overtones while still being able to center pitches well.
The trigger mechanism has been modified by Bob Pallansch, a D.C. craftsman. The current metal linkages were crafted by George McCracken.
This King still has some life in it, and certainly still packs a punch!
